Getting started
How quickly can care start?
Call us to talk about timing. Care needs often come up suddenly, after a fall or a hospital stay for example, and we’ll tell you how soon a caregiver can start.
Is there a minimum number of hours?
No. There are no contracts and no minimums. You can book as little as one hour a week or as much as round-the-clock care, and change the schedule as needs change.
Do I have to sign a long-term contract?
No. Keep Safe Care doesn’t use long-term contracts. You can adjust or pause care as your family’s needs change.
What happens when I first call?
We’ll ask about your loved one, their routines and what has become hard, answer your questions about cost and scheduling, and talk through next steps for a care plan.
Care and services
What is non-medical home care?
Non-medical home care is help with the everyday activities that become hard with age, illness or disability, such as bathing, dressing, meals, housekeeping, transportation and companionship. These are often called activities of daily living, or ADLs. It doesn’t include medical tasks like wound care, injections or therapy.
What’s the difference between home care and home health?
Home care is non-medical help with daily life, booked for as many or as few hours as you need. Home health is medical care, such as nursing or therapy, ordered by a doctor for a limited time. Many families use both.
Can your caregivers give medications?
Our caregivers can remind your loved one to take medications on schedule, but they don’t administer medications or perform medical tasks. Those are handled by licensed nurses or a home health agency.
Do you offer live-in and 24/7 care?
Yes. Round-the-clock care can be covered by caregivers working shifts or by a live-in caregiver, depending on your loved one’s needs.
Can you help after a hospital stay?
Yes. Post-surgery and recuperative care covers rides home, help settling in, bathing, meals, medication reminders and rides to follow-up appointments.
Caregivers
Are your caregivers insured?
Yes. All Keep Safe Care caregivers are insured and bonded.
Will we have the same caregiver each time?
That’s the goal. Our 2/3 Rule® pays caregivers a bigger share of what clients pay, which helps good caregivers stay. That means familiar faces week after week instead of a revolving door of strangers.
What is the 2/3 Rule?
It’s how we pay caregivers: they earn two-thirds of what clients pay for their care. Better pay keeps good caregivers in the job and with the same families.
What kinds of caregivers do you have?
Depending on needs, we provide companion caregivers, personal care assistants, home health aides and certified nurse aides (CNAs).
How will I know what happened during a visit?
Caregivers check in and out with GPS through the Keep Safe Care app and log tasks as they go, with photos and messages tracked in real time. You’ll know when the caregiver arrived, what got done and when they left.
Cost and payment
How much does home care cost?
Cost depends on the type of care and the number of hours you need each week. We use a sliding fee scale, so your hourly rate goes down as your weekly hours go up. Call us for current rates in your area.
Does Medicare pay for non-medical home care?
Original Medicare generally doesn’t cover non-medical, private-duty home care, so many families pay privately. Some long-term care insurance policies and veterans’ benefits, such as the VA’s Aid and Attendance benefit, can help with the cost. We’re happy to talk through your options.
Can veterans get help paying for care?
Some veterans and surviving spouses qualify for VA pension benefits such as Aid and Attendance, which can help pay for help at home. Call us and we’ll point you in the right direction.
